Plan Your Epitaph Day

Is it right to actually enjoy this weird holiday each year?  Ah well, too bad because some of these epitaphs are just too funny, ironic and poignant to miss!  Besides, it’s the “last joke you’ll make”.  Ha!  Before I send you to 15 of the funniest Epitaphs according to blogger Amanda Chatel, let’s take a quick look at the spot where are these epitaphs “reside”, cemeteries.

While the photo listed above is not funny, it is most definitely memorable, this was a remarkable man. Here are a list of more humorous ones:

Some fun facts about cemeteries, including remembering some of the more elaborate. The largest cemetery in the U.S. is in Queens, New York, and is called Calvary Cemetery. It is a Roman Catholic cemetery with about 3 million burials.  It is also one of the oldest cemeteries in the U.S. and covers 365 acres (see picture below).  Where is the largest cemetery in the world you might ask?

Wadi Al-Salaam, (Valley of Peace) is an Islamic cemetery, located in the Shia holy city of Najaf, Iraq with 1,485.5 acres and containing over 5 million bodies (see picture above).

While we may not think of a cemetery as beautiful, there are actually a few. I was thinking the Taj Mahal is the most beautiful, right?  It’s a tomb for an Indian emperor’s favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.  The mausoleum sits on a stunning 42 acres and cost 32 million rupees in 1653 ($827 million) to build.  It took 10 years and employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects.  And it’s one of the “7 Wonders of the World”.

But if your tastes run to more traditional cemeteries, there’s St. Andrew’s in Scotland and my favorite, “Cim`etire du P`ere Lachaise” in Paris, France:
