National Frozen Yogurt Day- Yes, I enjoy ice cream, and frozen yogurt too. Even though frozen yogurt, or Froyo as it has become known as, has been around since the 1970’s, it really did not gain popularity until the last decade, with shops popping up all over the United states and abroad. I decided to do a little research on the subject, to become a little more educated on this tasty treat.
I found this site listing 11 cool facts about frozen yogurt. While I am not going to list them all here, there were a couple I thought were particularly interesting:
The milk in frozen yogurt is not just from cows, it can also come from sheep, goat, and even water buffalo. And in the Middle East and Western China they have yak can camel varieties.
There is a lot of competition in the froyo department, with Menchie’s coming in first in 2015 with more than 13 percent of the market, but having only 300 stores, in comparison with TCBY’s 518 stores. Click on either location for a coupon valid today for buy one get one free.
The last interesting fact I am going to mention is a little closer to home, as a frozen yogurt machine resides in the Supreme Court cafeteria thanks to Justice Elena Kagan, She has joked that she’ll be remembered as the “frozen yogurt justice”. Not a bad title if you ask me.
