The Importance of a Good Hug

Hugging is an integral part of life. Have you ever heard the saying, “they weren’t hugged enough as a child” there are studies to back this up. According to parentingforbrain.com, “skin contact or physical touch, such as hugging, is one of the most important stimulation required to grow a healthy brain and strong body. Hugs are good for emotional health. Nothing can calm a tantrum faster than a hug from mom”. There are of course other reasons in the article such as helping to bond, and making happy kids, that are worth reading.

Hugging is not just good for children, as there are also health benefits for adults. According to an article from usnews.com, “besides helping you feel close and connected to people you care about, it turns out that hugs can bring a host of health benefits to your body and mind. Believe it or not, a warm embrace might even help you avoid getting sick”.  Wow, imagine that, your immune system might actually be stronger just from simple hugs. The article goes on to state that, “a 2005 study from the University of North Carolina fond that pre-menopausal women who got more frequent hugs from their partners had lower blood pressure then peers who didn’t get as many”. The reason is believed to be in part to the hormone oxytocin which can be released during hugging.

The article is insightful, and a good read, if you are looking for ways to naturally stay healthy. Don’t delay, start hugging more now!

Random Acts of Kindness

Right now, with so much uneasiness going on, this day has come at the perfect time. Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and in fact, there is an entire organization dedicated to random acts of kindness, and you can get involved.

So, what does it mean to be kind to someone? It can really come in so many forms, here are a few examples: opening a door, saying thank you, bringing a sick person soup, giving someone a hug who needs it, buying someone lunch, donating blood, giving someone your full attention, sending someone a message you don’t talk to often or even smiling at someone. You can find even more here. Kindness has so many shapes and forms, and we too often forget this. So today, I highly encourage you to try one, two or even more of these today, and see how it makes you feel. Spread the joy, we will all be happier for it.
