Mutt’s Day

Christy and I love our dogs, and this short little video depicts just that feeling perfectly!

Here our song lyrics that honor our four-legged family as well:

“Bless the beasts and the children,

For in this world they have no voice,

They have no choice.

Bless the beasts and the children,

For the world can never be,

The world they see.

Light their way

When the darkness surrounds them;

Give them love, let it shine all around them.

Bless the beasts and the children;

Give them shelter from a storm;

Keep them safe;

Keep them warm.

Light their way

When the darkness surrounds them;

Give them love, let it shine all around them.

Bless the beasts and the children;

Give them shelter from a storm;

Keep them safe;

Keep them warm.

Bless the beasts and the children;

Give them shelter from a storm;

Keep them safe;

Keep them warm.”

Go On a Picnic, or Two or Three

Picnics can be a lot of fun, when done right. You can make it just about the food, or food, and fun too. Some picnics have activities such as volleyball, horseshoes, or even disc golf (I know Melky and I enjoy that). Click here for a list of picnic spots here in Modesto, and if you are looking to get out of town, then click here for a list that expands out a little. Be sure to watch out for the ants, and if you go into the forest, watch out for other wildlife. Otherwise have fun with your friends, family, or significant other!

Take Your Dog to Work Day

Did you take your four-legged friend to work with you today? If not, you missed out! Today was take your dog to work day. According to Marketplace.org, “when it was first introduced in 1999 by Pet Sitter International (PSI) people were skeptical about it. It was to get people to be able to spend more time with their pets”. Fast forward to almost 20 years later, it has become popular, provided your dog is one that can come to the office with you, as we know not all dogs are well behaved enough to bring. If you missed it this year, then put it in your calendar now, so that you don’t miss out on this fun day next year!

We Love Our Pets

Did you know that there is a whole list of days for pet owners recognizing different days having to do with being a pet owner? Yes, you can Google Pet Holidays and find lists such as this one, and learn that there are many days in honor of our pets. Today, April 18, 2017 for instance, is known as Pet Owners Independence Day. So what is this day exactly, well if you read up online it was a day to switch roles with your pets. Can you imagine your dog or cat driving into work, while we lay on the floor, waiting for attention, someone to scratch our head. Seems pretty funny, but wouldn’t it be nice. Here is a link to some of the details I found on this holiday. And of course my image of choice is my Melky. I guess I will have to get one of him sitting at my desk with a little jacket on, to truly play the role.

Take Time to Take a Walk Today

Today is a take a walk in the park day, and while the weather here in the valley is warm, that wind is wicked. So, you might want to do something about those allergies before heading out, and take a Kleenex or two with you. Here is a link to a few different home remedies to help alleviate some of that sneezing, they include saline spray, a Neti Pot and local honey. Here is a link to find local honey in case you are interested. Since we are dealing with wind, you might want to take a kite out with you, it is the perfect day for that. Another option is of course taking the pooch out on your walk with you, which is what I plan to do. As you can see from the image, Melky and I enjoy our walks together! Whatever you decide, I hope it is a great day for you!

Inspire Your Heart With Art Day

Every day of my life with my artist son, Alex Walker makes me feel inspired. I invite you to “walk”  through Alex’s website and view his incredible art.  Amazing doesn’t describe the half of it.

Alex finds inspiration in everything around him, including the family dog Melky, who looks a bit “inspired” by this portrait of a friend’s dog.

I’d like to encourage you to support local artists in your own community. Art truly is life-changing.

Disc Golf With Melky The Squirrel Hunter

Melky knows Disc Golf!  Have you heard of it, seen it, or maybe you have played it?   Do you know what it means to “bring the chains”?

It all started with Ed Headrick (1924-2002), inventor of the modern Frisbee and founder of the Disc Golf Association (1976).  Disc golf is similar to regular golf; however, instead of using golf clubs and balls aiming for a hole, Disc Golf players used golf discs and aim for a Disc Pole Hole, a pole extending up from the ground with chains and a basket where the disc lands.  The object of the game is to complete 9 or 18 “holes” in the fewest number of throws.  The player with the lowest total cumulative score wins.

Modesto is home to a 27-hole Disc Golf Course at East La Loma Park, with 2 entrances: Scenic Oaks off Scenic, La Loma Park off Edgebrook Drive.

Look for Melky!  Or shall we say look for the squirrels and you’ll find Melky?!
